Although in my painting I started exploring ideas relating to the internet, spam, and the digital/cyber realm towards the end of 2003, I started getting serious about it in 2004 and on through the present. I am inspired by the internet platform as a way of investigating current events as well as the human condition as it relates to and is tightly interwoven with our inner, cyber, natural and urban landscapes. My paintings are a critique of as well as an assimilation and celebration of the multiplicity and disparate abundance of visual information often intended to side-track, seduce and/or sell something to the public. My work is based on the visual realm of popular and often infamous imagery that permeates our social consciousness through the media, especially the internet.
As a whole, I've been painting because (at the expense of sounding like so many "kindred-spirit" artists) I have an urgency to do it. As far as "themes", issues and life-matters of interest, lately (for the past 3 years or so), my "creativity" through images has been fueled by a myriad of factors, including: "end of days/ times" paranoia; globalization/ consumerism/ capitalism (especially as experienced in cyberspace); racial relations (especially fear and profiling); political "mishaps" (embarrassments & scandals); instant information (including the unfortunate reality of identity theft); the human condition (yes, a cliche) including our need for intimacy; love and a sense of belonging (this includes our societal obsession with make-overs & viagra).
Visit my Painting Galleries: For over twenty years, image-making for me has been a passion and avenue for exploring experiences, dreams and preoccupations, including issues of our dependence on technology, consumer culture, relationships, spirituality, politics, and the human "theatre". The paintings are arranged into different galleries, grouped, chronologically (the earliest from 1993 and spanning into the present) and "themes", especially when I find myself working in a series of paintings inspired from my life experiences, memories, nostalgia and personal interest, for example multi-generational, cross-cultural, popular consumer-based iconography and imagery, such as Chespirito, the Morton Salt Girl, muppets from Sesame Street, the Mexican Loteria, and Art History Homages.
